I have an announcement!

BETH THOMAS

RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST

Hey there Reader,

Happy Friday! How are you doing?

Well, what a month it's been.

Self-advocacy month is, quite honestly, finishing with a sparkly bang.

I've been building my professional speaking career recently.

And yeah, it's been terrifying.

Even with all my performance training, there's still something about stepping onto a stage as yourself and proving you are who you claim to be, demonstrating evidence of your excellence to a room of eyes all trained on you.

Imposter syndrome doesn't always disappear; if anything it flares up in those vulnerable moments.

But here's what I know: even with the doubt, the panic, the little voice asking if anyone will actually care what I have to say, I'm getting the most incredible feedback.

People are showing up, they're responding, and they're telling me it's landing.

That matters more than the fear.

And that's where self-advocacy comes in.

Validation.

Because where I'm at today only happened because I knew my needs and wasn't afraid to say them out loud.

When you're clear about what you need, people know how to support you better.

When people know how to support you, they send you opportunities aligned with exactly where you can add value.

As you may know, a few months back, I was introduced to the managing director of Inspirational Speakers Bureau. I jumped in to cover a last-minute slot, which led to a follow-up call with Claire.

Which led in turn to being invited to join the Bureau.

Which led to knowing I needed a speaker showreel to make it official.

The problem is that I don't do tech, editing, or videography.

I could if I wanted to, but those aren't my strengths.

So I did what I've been going on about all month...

I asked for help.

I reached out to Julian Gander, my photographer and media magician, and said, "I'm in a sticky situation.

I've got some mostly homemade footage, no clue how to make it work and a tight deadline."

He said, "Send it over."

Days later, I had a showreel that was miles better than anything I could've dreamed up.

And I didn't stress because I wasn't trying to do something outside my wheelhouse.

That last piece was the missing link.

Now my professional speaking profile is live on the Inspirational Speakers Bureau directory.

I'm absolutely THRILLED about this.

But more than that, I'm proud because it's proof that everything I've been talking about actually works.

Self-advocacy isn't some theoretical thing.

It's knowing your needs, asking for support, working with people who get you, and letting everyone do what they're best at.

None of this happens without the people in my world.

My wonderful speaker friends Charlie Hart, Sam Warner, Samantha Garstin, and Michelle Mills-Porter.

Mike Garner, who gets these thoughts out of my head and into words you can actually digest.

Jules, my media magician, who makes everything look professional.

And YOU—for showing up, for being here, and for reminding me that this space matters.

So here's your invite: check out my profile on the Inspirational Speakers Bureau and celebrate this one with me.

Best and brightest love.

Beth x

P.S. Next month we're exploring beliefs and burnout prevention. We're also kicking off our community masterclasses again, and I'm launching with "Navigating Overwhelm." If that's something you want to dive into, stick around. Details coming next week.

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hey there Reader, Happy Friday everyone! I’m sending this a week later than originally planned... Past me probably would have been in full shame spiral by now. Have I been annoyed with myself that I didn't send this when I'd promised to? Of course. Has it created a big swirly shame spiral that felt eternally torturous? Not so much! Current-me is choosing to see it differently: I’m meeting myself with kindness instead of judgment. (spoiler; this has not...

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hey there Reader, Happy Friday! You’ve made it through another week. I hope you’re finding a moment to celebrate yourself for that. I have two quick updates, both for events next week that I’m genuinely excited about, and I’d love to see you there! Before that, I want to share a beautiful moment we had in the Curious Minds Collective. Last night was our games night, and we had a blast! It was a beautiful way to end the day and I didn't realise how much I...

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hey there Reader, So. It is officially May. I know, I know... I've checked. Twice. Because as some of you very kindly pointed out last week, I got the dates spectacularly wrong (again) whilst joking with you about getting dates wrong. The irony was not lost on me! I am, if nothing else, consistent. But it did get me thinking. What happens when we hear something often enough that we just… stop questioning it? Not because it's obviously true. Not even...
