ADHD Awareness Month (and the other 11 months too)

BETH THOMAS

RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST

Hi Reader,

It's October 3rd, which means ADHD Awareness Month is officially here.

Again.

Your feeds are probably drowning in ADHD content right now.

But of course, ADHD isn't just for October.

It's all year round. Awareness months are great, they really are.

But don't get caught up following people who are just jumping on the bandwagon to boost their own visibility.

There are great people out there building awareness and pushing for neuroinclusion every single day.

It's their life's work, not just their October content plan.

Those are the voices worth listening to.

If you're looking to expand who you're learning from, here are some people doing brilliant work year-round:

Charlie Hart โ€“ lived experience educator covering the intersections of neurodivergence, mental health, and sexuality. Their keynotes are exceptional.

Sam Warner โ€“ does powerful work on inclusive communication.

Sunny Jane Wise โ€“ lived experience educator focused on neuroinclusion and the neurodiversity movement.

There are many others too, and I'd encourage you to seek them out.

So yes, this month might look like a celebration and inclusive on the surface.

But use it as a chance to check in with yourself and your spaces.

Are they genuinely inclusive for the other 11 months?

If not, get curious about why.

Maybe education that's missing. Or training or coaching. Or something else entirely.

There's always a solution worth exploring, especially if you're in a position to learn something that could improve your life or make your world more inclusive.

Lead with curiosity.

Because shaming ourselves has never got anyone anywhere useful.

Let's make a bit less space for that and a bit more space for self-compassion instead.

Best and brightest love.

Beth x

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST HReaderi, I spent Friday at the Super Speaker Showcase, and I still haven't quite worked out what happened. There was I, in a room packed with professional speakers โ€“ most with tons of experience, polished presentations, years of getting better. All watched by VIP bookers from top agencies across the UK and beyond. High stakes. High expectations. Absolutely no pressure! Ten speakers. Fifteen minutes each. Nearly everyone used their entire time slot. But...

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hi Reader. By the time you're reading this, I'll be deep into running the Super Speaker Showcase with my friend Michelle Mills-Porter. Not speaking at it. Running it. And there's a story here I need to tell you. I applied to speak at this showcase twice. I didn't get in the first time. That hurt. I didn't get in again the second time either. But I made the reserve list. That might not sound like winning. But it was moving forward. The first time was a no....

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hi, Reader I blocked someone this week. A therapist, would you believe. Someone in a position of authority who should have known better. They'd been leaving comments on my TikTok videos that were not just incorrect โ€“ they were harmful. I love a good debate as much as anyone else. I'm all for exchanging ideas, challenging each other, growing together. But this wasn't that. This was someone using clinical language in an unhealthy way to cause damage....
