The win I almost didn't get

BETH THOMAS

RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST

Hey there Reader,

On Wednesday I talked about something I was a little reluctant to admit... Poor boundaries that cost me money I couldn’t afford to lose.

Today I want to do something different.

Because as messy and uncomfortable as this boundaries work has been (and I have really not loved all of it), something happened this week that I need to celebrate.

Tuesday morning, I delivered a mini 10-minute keynote at a coffee morning in London. And I nearly didn’t get to do it at all.

I’ll explain.

I’d been booked to speak on a panel.

The organisers mixed up the dates, then told me it was fully booked, I couldn’t be on the panel anymore.

Sorry about that.

They'd still love to hear my voice though.

Old Beth?

“Oh no worries at all, maybe next time!”

And then probably never following up to make it happen.

But this time was different.

I told them that I’d moved appointments to be there, and that I’d really love to find another way to still contribute.

Could we figure something out?

They agreed to a 10-minute keynote slot instead.

And that's how I got to speak to a fully booked room of amazing people in central London.

That one moment of courage, made possible by practising (and failing) many times before that to honour my worth and advocate for myself.

I stood in front of the room, shared my insights, connected with some incredible people, and had the most magical morning.

All because I briefly, slightly uncomfortably, advocated for myself.

That’s the thing nobody tells you about boundaries.

It’s not really about 'just' saying no.

It about knowing your worth, your value, your energy, your limits, your needs and how to advocate for all of these without believing you should be at the bottom of the priority list.

Since I’ve been doing this work:

My sleep is better.

My anxiety is quieter (most of the time).

I feel more confident and less resentful.

Do I still sometimes feel like a terrible, selfish person for having a boundary?

Of course.

But overall? I feel so much more balanced.

And inside the membership, I’m watching people have their own versions of this moment — the email they actually sent, the request they made, the opportunity they didn’t let slip away.

Celebrating those wins is genuinely one of my favourite parts of the week.

If you’re ready to stop people-pleasing and start figuring out what healthier boundaries could actually look like for you, come join us.

It’s a bunch of wonderfully like-minded humans who completely get it, because they’ve been exactly where you are.

Have a brilliant weekend. I’ll be back next week with more from our boundaries series, there’s still so much good stuff to get into.

Best and brightest love

Beth x

P.S. Whether you’re in the community or not — I would genuinely love to hear about your boundary wins. Hit reply and tell me. We need to celebrate these things more!

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hey there Reader, Almost a quarter of the way through 2026, and I genuinely don’t know where the time went. If you know where January and February disappeared to, please send them back. I have questions... But honestly? The speed of this year is part of why I wanted to write to you today. Because it’s so easy to just keep moving, keep doing, and never pause long enough to actually check in. Are you working in alignment with what matters to you? Or are you...

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hey there Reader, We made it through another week! What are you celebrating about yourself today? Are you heading into a weekend you’re actually looking forward to? Are you working, resting, somewhere in between? Don’t forget the clocks are changing. Today I’m wrapping up our month of boundaries content — and if you’ve loved this theme, don’t worry, it’s not gone forever. I’ll be coming back to it. But I want to leave you with one final reminder on what...

BETH THOMAS RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST Hey there Reader, Can we just acknowledge how quickly the first quarter of the year has gone? Even for those of us who might be able to process time at the best of times, this year has started at a genuinely alarming pace. So — how are you all doing? Because this time of year does something interesting for a lot of the neurodivergent people I work with. Winter hits us hard. The short days, the relentless grey, the way emotional regulation just quietly...
